Historically, the Nigerian electricity market has operated at the national level with no state involvement. As such, the growth of the power sector has been managed by the federal government, with one transmission network and grid in place to serve the entire country.
With the constitutional amendment and the new Electricity Act 2023 (EA), this is certain to change as states are empowered to participate in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within their states.
